In Loving Memory
I.W. Marks Founder, and namesake of I W Marks Jewelers, served as a shining example of businessman committed to giving back to his community.
I.W. Marks' community service included serving on the boards of: The Houston Grand Opera, The Houston Symphony, Greater Houston Better Business Bureau, Crimestoppers of Houston, On the executive board for The Society for the Performing Arts, The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, The Cancer League of Houston and many other humanitarian causes. I.W. Marks generously donated funds and his business expertise to schools, performing arts and health organizations, universities and business associations.
Diane and Irv Marks started I W Marks Jewelers in 1978 in a small 500 square foot store. They grew the business and the store to its current and impressive 10,000-square-foot store. I W Marks Jewelers gained popularity in the 80’s with the now-deceased wrestler Paul Boesch commercials. In one battered, cauliflower-ear Boesch wore a diamond earring and said something close to, "If I.W. Marks can make my ears look pretty, think what he can do for hers."
Irv Marks was very generous and donated to many Houston area Arts programs as well as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He donated time and money to the Houston Grand Opera, the Houston Symphony, the Houston Ballet, the Society for the Performing Arts, the Alley Theatre and the University of Houston's Moores School of Music. He also helped to renovate two theaters and a lecture hall at the Jewish Community Center. He also served on the board of Crime Stoppers of Houston for many years.
